Over a third more domain names sold in January

New Year entrepreneurs rush online to register their website addresses. Analysis by Amenworld.com - the company that makes it simple for businesses to get started on the 'net - found that January and February were the most popular months to register a domain name .

Since 2005, Amenworld.com has observed a consistent rise in sales of domain names every January as people make starting their own business a New Year resolution. Last year saw an increase of over 36 per cent in .co.uk domains and a 22 per cent increase in .com domains.

In February 07 there was a further increase of 37 per cent in .com domain names from the previous month, showing that people are at their entrepreneurial best as the New Year sets in. Keeping this trend in mind, Amenworld predicts that we’ll see a similar boost in new domains in 2008.

Since 2005, over 17 per cent more .com domains have been consistently bought in Q1, compared to Q4 in the previous year. The quarterly rise in .co.uk domain names has not shown the same consistency; The Q1 in January 06 showed an 18 per cent increase while Q1 in January 07 showed an 8.7 per cent increase from the previous year.
